ST. LOUIS TOURISM QUICK FACTS
St. Louis hosts 16.7 million visitors each year. Visitors spend $3.8 billion in St. Louis each year. More than 76,000 St. Louis-area residents are employed in the hospitality industry. St. Louis has more than 33,000 hotel rooms. 7,400 of the rooms are downtown within a mile of America's Center, St. Louis' convention facility. Leisure visitors spent an average of $974 per travel party (3.9 people) during their stay in St. Louis. 48 percent of leisure visitors came to St. Louis with their spouses and 23 percent traveled with their children. St. Louis offers more free, major attractions than anyplace outside of the nation's capital including the Saint Louis Zoo, Saint Louis Art Museum, Saint Louis Science Center, Missouri History Museum, Anheuser-Busch Brewery, the Old Courthouse, Cahokia Mounds, the Lewis & Clark State Historic Site, Purina Farms and the Grant's Farm animal preserve. According to a recent survey, 54 percent of leisure visitors citied the "variety of things to see and do" as their main reason for coming to St. Louis. 36 percent of leisure visitors to St. Louis came in June-August; 32 percent visited September-November; 17 percent arrived in December-February; 15 percent came to St. Louis March-May. 78 percent of leisure visitors come to St. Louis by car, 21 percent by air and 1 percent by other means. |
