ST. LOUIS GAMING VENUES ROLL DICE WITH A NEW LOOK
Lady Luck has a new look in St. Louis. The area's casinos are sporting new décor sure to dazzle visitors--and they're offering more entertainment options as well. The President Casino on the Admiral is located in the historic Laclede's Landing entertainment district. The location allows for easy access to Interstate 70 and puts guests within walking distance of the many sights and sounds of popular Laclede's Landing. The Landing is home to Embassy Suites and Ramada Inn hotels and more than 20 dining and shopping establishments. The President, with four decks of gaming fun, has more than 1,400 slot, video poker, blackjack and keno machines, along with approximately 70 table games. The views from the boat can't be beat either. There are beautiful dockside views of historic Laclede's Landing, fantastic views of the soaring Gateway Arch and sweeping views of the Mighty Mississippi. When hunger comes a-calling, visitors can eat their fill at the President's Buffet where they'll find scrumptious lunch buffets and the prime rib and peel ‘n' eat shrimp dinner buffet, each all-you-can-eat meals at great prices. And on Sundays, the President's Buffet offers a delicious champagne Sunday brunch. For quick snacks or a wide variety of tasty treats for lunch and dinner, there's the River's Edge Deli on the "A" or bottom deck." Also on the "A" deck is a historical display featuring vintage photographs and memorabilia of the Admiral which was built in 1907. The display presents a historical timeline of the Admiral's journey from proud steamer to magnificent casino. Some of the display's memorabilia has been furnished from the private collections of former Admiral patrons. Admission to the President is $2 but free to Captain's Club members. Now with continuous boarding, visitors can enter the casino from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. during the week and 24 hours on weekends. Ample and convenient guest parking is available along the levee, which means a shorter walk from car door to casino door. Parking in several lots is free with validation. More shuttle buses, which make continuous rounds for passengers during heavy usage times, have also been added. Valet parking is available for a nominal charge. Look for lots of excitement at the Casino Queen, directly across the Mississippi River from the magnificent Gateway Arch. The Casino Queen offers unlimited stakes gaming with the romance of a Midwestern riverboat setting. As a replica of an authentic 19th century side-wheeler riverboat, the Casino Queen is one of the area's top tourist attractions. Here you'll find more than 1,000 slot and video poker machines and popular table games including blackjack, Craps, Caribbean stud, baccarat, and pai gow poker. If the action in the casino makes you hungry, you'll find plenty of options for your taste buds at the Casino Queen. The Royal Table restaurant specializes in steaks and seafood, serving dinner nightly in an elegant yet comfortable atmosphere. For something more casual, the Queen's Courtyard Buffet serves an elaborate breakfast, lunch and dinner in a garden-style atmosphere. The Gazebo Cafe, located in the guest pavilion, offers an expanded menu with breakfast items, sandwiches, salads, pizza, ice cream and more. The Sports Lounge & Grill, located on the second deck of the casino, serves lunch and dinner in a casual, sports-themed atmosphere. The Casino Queen is permanently docked and offers continuous open boarding from 9 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. daily. Admission is free. At Harrah's St. Louis Casino and Hotel, visitors will find two casinos-the Island casino with a Caribbean theme and the Mardi Gras casino. The Mardi Gras is open from 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and the Island is open from 11 a.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Both casinos are open 24 hours Friday and Saturday. Guests at Harrah's St. Louis Hotel will notice things are a little brighter on several floors as renovations continue with all guest rooms slated for upgrading. The eight-floor hotel is the only full-service casino hotel in St. Louis. It features 291 upscale guest rooms and suites. Harrah's offers several dining options including The Range, a steakhouse; Antonio's, an Italian restaurant, and the Town Square Buffet where visitors can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ameristar Casino St. Charles on the Missouri River features stained glass skylights, trusses and Corinthian columns that create an elegant setting in the casino evoking the spirit of Victorian-era theaters and grand hotels Visitors are greeted with a dramatic entrance to the casino. An elevated roadway crosses to a porte cochere evoking images of a historic wharf, train station and pavilion structures of the 1880s. A cobblestone path leads guests from the Town Square to Main Street where they may access the casino, restaurants and entertainment venues under a magnificent skylight. The Main Street building facades were inspired by the 1880s architecture of St. Charles' historic river port district. Entertainment options include the Bottleneck Blues Bar where visitors can enjoy an array of diverse local, regional and national blues, pop, jazz and country performers. With the classic architecture of a blues club, beer bottle caps and soda can tops add decorative touches throughout the room. At 130,000-square-feet and with 3,300 slot and video poker machines and 95 table games, Ameristar Casino St. Charles offers the largest selection of slots and table games in the metropolitan St. Louis area. The facility also includes a retail gift shop and a video game arcade, and exciting dining and entertainment options are offered in seven dining and entertainment venues. The 47 Port Street Grill, a steakhouse, was inspired by the legendary designs of architect Frank Lloyd Wright and features traditional walnut wainscoting, crown molding and coffered ceilings. Visitors can also journey back to the hip atmosphere of the 1950s at the King Cat Club, the perfect place to relax with a martini. A 34-foot long video wall greets visitors at the Amerisports Bar & Grill, a restaurant in a setting resembling a converted turn-of-the-century warehouse with a blend of trendy industrial style and detail. Reminiscent of a turn-of-the-century outdoor street market, the Landmark Buffet offers food stations detailed in ethnic themes. For a very relaxed experience, visitors will enjoy the Falcon Diner, a casual setting for 24-hour dining. The art deco modernist movement is reflected in the décor of the diner. Counter and table seating are available in Pearl's Oyster Bar, an eclectic southern-style restaurant in the form of a shanty accented by a rusted, corrugated roof. An open-air patio overlooks the grand walkway with its magnificent domed skylight. Admission to the casino is free, and there is a free enclosed parking facility adjacent to the casino. Valet parking is also available. At the Alton Belle Casino across the Mississippi north of St. Louis in historic Alton, Illinois, the centerpiece of the 60,000-square-foot floating facility is the "Spirit of America" barge, a colorful side-wheeler reminiscent of barges seen on the Mississippi River in the early 1900s. The theme of the facility is a riverfront warehouse district accentuated by the 90-foot-tall twin smokestacks of the "Spirit of America." Visitors enter through a 17,000-square-foot "Fun Barge" designed to resemble a whimsical riverfront warehouse. The entry is split into ports of call with themes such as Key West and a southern island. Nautical props and vibrant colors add to the gaiety, and a replica of the Clark Bridge greets visitors in the main entry. Gaming fun on the Belle includes unlimited-stakes Las Vegas-style blackjack, 1,000 slot machines, roulette, pai gow poker, let-it-ride, three-card poker and Caribbean stud. Hungry players will find sustenance at the Outfitters Grill Restaurant, the Captains Table Buffet and the Key West Bar. The casino's first floor has slot machines, a lobby bar, a VIP counter and a snack bar with an atrium on one end. The facility has a 220-seat buffet and a 100-seat steakhouse with a view of the Clark Bridge on one end and a view upriver on the other. The Belle is open for gaming 10 a.m.-4 a.m. daily. Admission and parking are free. |
