CVC RECEIVES SERVICE AWARDS

Meeting and convention planners have many choices when selecting a destination for their events, so how can a community set itself apart from other cities and work to win business from those planners year after year?

The answer is service. That's why the CVC, in an effort to re-book economically valuable business for St. Louis, set out to establish itself as the services leader among convention and visitor bureaus.

This year, the CVC's efforts have paid off with honors for its outstanding client services from the readers of Meetings & Conventions (M&C) magazine, Facilities & Destinations Magazine, Meeting News magazine, Corporate & Incentive Travel Magazine and Successful Meetings magazine.

The M&C Gold Service award is presented by the readers of Meetings & Conventions magazine to the top convention and visitor bureaus throughout the world. "The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission is a part of the renowned membership of Gold Service winners, and your staff should be honored by this accolade from the industry's most discerning audience," said Bernard Schraer, group publisher of Meetings & Conventions magazine in presenting the CVC with the 2002 award.

The Facilities & Destinations Magazine Prime Site Award was presented to the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission in 2002 for the Edward Jones Dome, which is part of the America's Center convention complex. According to the magazine's associate publisher, Michael Caffin, the awards are based on voting by their association meeting and trade show planner readers. The magazine also presented America's Center with a Prime Site Award. The magazine's subscribers rate convention centers on the attractiveness of the facility, appeal of the destination, accessibility, food and beverage service, meeting and exhibit space, onsite management, professionalism of staff, technology, ease of exhibit setup and breakdown and affordability.

In addition, the CVC has won the Top Destination Award from Facilities & Destinations magazine. This readers' choice award honors CVBs for their convention center quality, professionalism of staff, hotel accommodations, onsite event management, promotions and services and attractiveness of the destination to association meeting planners.

The 2002 Award of Excellence was presented to the CVC by Harvey Grotsky, publisher of Corporate & Incentive Travel Magazine. "Convention bureaus chosen to receive this coveted honor were selected by our subscribers who voted for those CVBs that best served their corporate meetings and/or incentive travel programs during the past year, " said Grotsky.

Both the CVC and the St. Louis Executive Conference Center at America's Center won Pinnacle Awards for 2001. The readers of Successful Meetings magazine awarded the conference centers, convention and visitor bureaus and national tourist associations "that performed an outstanding job of meeting the needs of meeting planners."

Meeting News magazine has honored the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission with its prestigious Planners' Choice Award. The awards are decided by the magazine's readers who are professional corporate and association meeting planners from across the country. According to the magazine, the awards are given to convention bureaus, convention centers and conference centers that "regularly excel in all phases of conference and hospitality service." Criteria for convention bureau nominees include the "helpfulness and efficiency of the bureau staff, the quality and number of services provided and the staff's timely response to planners' needs."
