JULY CONVENTIONS IN ST. LOUIS

ST. LOUIS -- June 30, 2008 - Thousands of delegates will gather in St. Louis, July 4-11, for the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church Quadrennial General Conference. The eight-day event will be held at the America's Center convention complex. The general conference is the supreme body of the AME Church and is held every four years to perform church business, examine policy, and to select various denominational officers, including bishops. The conference theme is "Equipping the Saints, Empowering the People, Transforming the World." Conference highlights include a Love Feast and Prayer Service, Interdenominational Prayer Walk, and a Watch Night Prayer Service. The African Methodist Episcopal Church has a unique history in that it is the first major religious denomination in the Western World that had its origin over sociological rather than theological beliefs and differences, and the first African-American organized and incorporated denomination in the U.S.

Tree experts from around the world will gather to network and grow their knowledge of the tree care industry during the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Annual Conference and Trade Show, July 27-30, in St. Louis. The four-day conference and trade show will take place at America's Center convention complex. A highlight of the convention is the International Tree Climbing Championship to be held at Forest Park July 26 and 27 providing an opportunity for area residents to see tree climbers from around the globe compete for the title of world champion. ISA will also hold Field Days at Forest Park with events including a kids' tree climb and an outdoor trade show and equipment demonstration. In addition to activities and education programming, the conference will also include a trade show. The ISA, founded in 1924, is a nonprofit organization devoted to the support of tree care research around the world.

Other groups meeting in St. Louis in July include the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus Foundation Meeting, July 9-13, at the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac; International Carnival Glass Association Annual Convention, July 16-19, at the St. Louis Marriott West; EquipoVision Summer East Convention, July 23-27, at America's Center; and the National Fragile X Foundation Conference, July 23-27, at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis Unions Station.
