CVC Books ASAE & The Center
"Super Bowl of Conventions" Coming to St. Louis in 2011 The St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (CVC) has booked the Annual Meeting & Exposition of the American Society of Association Executives and The Center for Association Leadership (ASAE & The Center) for St. Louis for 2011. "Hosting ASAE & The Center will give St. Louis a competitive advantage in the association meetings and conventions market for years to come," said CVC President Carole Moody. "Approximately 20 percent of association executives who attend the Annual Meeting & Exposition will also book a meeting of their own organization in the host city in the five years following the convention. This means that hosting an Annual Meeting may generate more than $500 million in revenue for the region St. Louis in 2011 and beyond. That's why this meeting is often referred to as the ‘Super Bowl of conventions' in the hospitality industry." The group's 7,500 attendees, many of whom are association meeting planners, will use more than 13,000 room nights during the August 2011 gathering. St. Louis was originally in competition with 16 other cities to host ASAE & The Center in one of three available years - 2009, 2011 or 2012. St. Louis made the final cut of cities earlier this year and conducted a formal presentation for the organization's decision makers in February. Mayor Slay accompanied the CVC sales team to Washington, D.C. to make the final presentation. Amy Ledoux, CAE, CMP, Vice President of Meetings & Expositions for ASAE, notified the CVC about St. Louis' winning bid in writing: "Congratulations to you and the whole St. Louis team. Your proposal was outstanding in EVERY respect. If I were to benchmark how a city should prepare, develop, communicate and deliver a proposal, I would point to St. Louis." "Everyone at the CVC looks forward to working with our members and community leaders to make the ASAE & The Center Annual Meeting & Exposition in St. Louis a memorable experience," said Moody.
