Six Flags St. Louis
DESCRIPTION: Six Flags St. Louis is a major amusement park featuring eight themed lands of adventure. The six flags that fly over the park represent the countries and states that have influenced St. Louis history -- France, Spain, Great Britain (which at one time had jurisdiction over the area), Illinois, Missouri and the U.S.A. The park features more than 40 attractions and game areas, more than 25 food outlets and gift shops, live shows and a tropical paradise water park called Hurricane Harbor. ADDRESS: P. O. HOURS: Six Flags St. Louis is open daily from mid-May through August; weekends from April to mid-May and weekends during September and October. The park opens at 10 a.m. Closing times vary depending on the time of year. Call ahead for current information. Due to private outings, Six Flags' operating schedule is subject to change. Call for specific dates and times. ADMISSION: General admission, (including Hurricane Harbor) is $44.99. Tickets for children 48" and under are $29.99 and children age 3 and under are free. Parking is $10.00. A season pass is $69.99, three or more cost $64.99. Season parking pass is $25.00. WHAT'S NEW: The giant family theme park company celebrates its 45th anniversary in 2006 with a new addition to its St. Louis site: Bugs Bunny National Park. The special park section provides rides and attractions that parents can enjoy and participate in along with their children. Family rides include hot air balloon replica's which take riders up, up and away; a flying rocket ship; a miniature drop ride; spinning tea cups; a rocking, spinning tugboat and miniature train. Parents and older siblings can also participate in a 3-story tree house play structure as well as interactive water play fountain. If parents just want to watch, the pint-sized airplanes and our swinging ship are just for the toddler set. The “Bugs” site includes the Character Café serving family favorites, Ranger Station featuring souvenirs geared for younger guests and restrooms so fun seekers don’t have to leave the area. New rides and attractions for older kids and adults include the new Superman Tower of Power 230-foot extreme free-fall ride, a Justice League characters’ entertainment area and a daily parade featuring favorite Looney Tunes and Justice League characters, lights, music and fireworks. ANNUAL SPECIAL EVENTS: Six Flags presents a number of special events each year including Fright Fest in the fall, Gospel Day in May and Physics Day, an exclusive day for math, science and physics students in the spring with a free workbook of supplementary exercises for use in high school physics classes. HISTORY: Six Flags St. Louis opened in 1971. It was the third park in the original 12-park system. Throughout its history, the park has added new attractions and game areas to become the leading amusement park in the Midwest. In 1999 Six Flags opened Hurricane Harbor, a $17 million, 12-acre water park featuring 11 water attractions. Entrance to Hurricane Harbor is free with admission to Six Flags. The Boss, a world-class wooden roller coaster with a 150-foot plunge, made its debut in 2000. HANDICAPPED ACCESS: Six Flags and most of the rides and theatres are handicapped accessible. Further information on access is available at the Guest Relations Office. WHERE TO GET LUNCH: There are many restaurants and snack bars throughout the park. Entrees include everything from hamburgers and pizza to Mexican fare and country cooking. Desserts include funnel cakes, caramel apples, homemade fudge and hand-dipped ice cream served in waffle cones reminiscent of those invented at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. GIFT SHOP: Many gift shops which offer a variety of logo items and other souvenirs are scattered throughout Six Flags St. Louis.
