HISTORY: Mount Pleasant Winery was founded by Georg and Fredrick Munch in 1859 on a site near the Missouri River. The area has a climate and terrain similar to the best wine-producing regions in Germany. The winery was built from Augusta limestone with handmade bricks manufactured on the property. The wines captured a gold medal at the Colombian Exposition in 1893 and at the World's Fair in 1904. While Mount Pleasant's reputation grew, Prohibition put a stop to winemaking in the region, and the vineyards were destroyed. After four decades, grape plants were once again cultivated. Today the winery is still producing award-winning wines from its 60 acres.

HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY: Mount Pleasant is handicapped accessible.

WHERE TO GET LUNCH: The winery has a grill and gourmet shop; call or check website for hours. The White House Restaurant in the nearby town of Augusta offers German and American fare.

GIFT SHOP: The Mount Pleasant Winery gift shop sells wine, wine accessories and t-shirts.

WHAT'S NEARBY: The drive to Mount Pleasant is scenic, and there are several other wineries in the area. The Historic Daniel Boone & Boonesfield Village is also nearby.
