Museum of the Dog
DESCRIPTION: The American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog, known as the Dog Museum, commemorates man’s centuries-old relationship with the dog with a collection of artwork including dog paintings, bronze sculptures and etchings. The museum is housed in historic Jarville House, an 1853 Greek Revival house in Queeny Park. The park was the estate of Edgar Monsanto Queeny, president of chemical giant Monsanto, Inc., from 1928-1960.

GETTING THERE: From downtown St. Louis, take I-64 west to Exit 24 (Mason Road). Turn left on Mason and follow the signs to the Dog Museum.
HOURS: Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, 1 p.m.-5 p.m., closed on Mondays and holidays.

HIGHLIGHTS:
- Works by famous animal artists of the world, representing all ages from eighteenth century porcelain and Staffordshire figures, to oil paintings and photographs from Landseer and William Wegman.
- Major works by Sir Edwin Landseer, Jean-Baptiste Oudry, Maud Earl, Kathy Jakobsen and many other famous artists.
- Displays of 19th century brass dog collars, huge silver trophies and the Hall of Fame with Lassie, Toto, The Beagle Brigade, search and rescue dogs, and more.
- A display of dogs from working and sporting fields.
- The Museum’s extensive reference library can be used by visitors to find out about the history of their dogs – from ancient origins to the latest show and trial results.
HISTORY: The American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog was founded by a group of art lovers in New York and moved to St. Louis in 1987. Its collection of art depicting canines includes paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, artifacts, ceramics, as well as books and video. The museum is a not-for-profit organization supported mainly by private and corporate contributions.

GIFT SHOP: The gift shop carries a variety of items with a dog theme such as pillows, pins, jewelry, frames, towels, plates, pens, cards, bags, books and Christmas tree ornaments.
ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS: Summer Camp for Kids, ages 5 to 11, held annually in June.
WHAT’S NEARBY: Worldways Children’s Museum is nearby. The Magic House, St. Louis’ children’s museum, is a few miles away.
