HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The tour of the historic Anheuser-Busch St. Louis Brewery begins with a visit to the Clydesdale paddock and stable for a look at the century-old home of the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales. Clydesdales were among the horses used during the early days of the U.S. brewing industry to deliver beer to local taverns and hotels.
  • At the historic Brew House, a multimedia presentation tells the story of the all-natural Budweiser brewing process. Turn-of-the-century elegance is evident in the Brew House's copper kettles, wall murals, ornate wrought-iron railings and hop vine chandeliers.
  • In the Bevo Packaging Plant, visitors view the high-speed bottling and canning lines.
  • At the tour's end, visitors relax over complimentary samples of Anheuser-Busch beers. Soft drinks are also available.

ANNUAL SPECIAL EVENTS: The Brewery schedules Clydesdale Camera Days throughout the year. Each December, the Brewery's buildings are outlined in thousands of twinkling white lights creating a fairy-tale look for the holidays.

HISTORY: In 1860, Eberhard Anheuser purchased a small brewery on the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis. The next year, Eberhard's daughter, Lilly, married a young brewery supplier named Adolphus Busch. Busch joined in the management of the brewery in 1864 and began brewing a variety of beers to satisfy the tastes of a growing, diverse young nation. A great brewing empire emerged from those beginnings. Busch's dream of creating a universally popular brand that transcended regional tastes came true in 1876 with the introduction of Budweiser. Today, located just 10 minutes from the Gateway Arch, Anheuser-Busch's world headquarters is the historical center of America's brewing heritage.

HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY: The tour is handicapped accessible. While there are stairs on the tour, people in wheelchairs will be transported up and down stairs via an elevator.

GIFT SHOP: Bud World, the Brewery's gift shop, has a wide array of items with the Budweiser logo.

WHERE TO GET LUNCH: Lynch Street Bistro is across the street from the Brewery, and Norton's Café, 808 Geyer Avenue, reminiscent of a New Orleans courtyard, is located in the historic Soulard district nearby.

WHAT'S NEARBY: The Chatillon-DeMenil Mansion, the historic Soulard Farmers' Market -- in continuous operation since 1779, the Soulard neighborhood filled with pubs and cafes and houses built mid-1800's, are nearby as is the Cherokee Street Antique District.
