Lori Fairchild

Front Desk, City Museum

One day a family came to visit and an older gentleman who looked very sad trailed behind the group. As the kids played, the mother sat with the man on one of the City Museum’s benches by the front desk. Miss Lori walked over to the mom and asked is she could encourage the man to go down the Monster Slide. After a little prodding, Miss Lori convinced the man to go up the three flights of stairs to the slide.  He slid down with such speed that he banged his elbows on the ground. But, after a brief hesitation, he got right up, grinned and said, “I’m going to do that again.” Miss Lori first tended to his cuts and the man continued to ride the slide for the rest of the day. As the family was leaving, the mom stopped by Miss Lori and said, “I have to thank you. That’s the first time I have seen my father smile in four weeks because it was four weeks ago that my mother passed away.”
