St. Louis. St. Lou Is... All Within Reach.
An 82 year old Serbian guest, Mr. Pesic, was found unresponsive and unable to communicate. His nephew had made the trip from Europe with him and was distraught. Neither Mr. Pesic nor his nephew spoke English. When EMS arrived a room attendant, Ms. Esmina Kahrimanovic, stepped forward to translate. She was able to ascertain specific information regarding Mr. Pesic’s medical history, symptoms and a list of medications he had taken. Those translations were imperative and, at the request of the EMS team, Esmina went to the hospital to facilitate communication between Mr. Pesic’s nephew and the emergency room staff.
She did not give it a second thought and stayed at the hospital until the gentleman’s condition stabilized. He had suffered a stroke. Upon the nephew’s return from the hospital, he needed to call Serbia and inform his relatives, but had no idea how to place the call and was unable to communicate with telephone company operators. Mr. Dejan Milovic, the laundry attendant, offered to assist as soon as he heard of the situation and acted as an interpreter for the calls so the nephew was able to contact family regarding his uncle’s health.
